Health Care

Health care is a human right. It’s about the freedom to have control over your own life, your own future.

It’s about the ability to go to work and provide your family, without being in pain or worrying about your health. It’s about living your life without feeling like the deck is stacked against you.

Right now, we live in a country where medical breakthroughs happen every day; where scientists develop new life-saving medication daily. In many ways, we are living in the golden age of medicine, but none of that matters when regular people cannot afford the care or medication they need to survive. None of that matters if you have to drive for hours and hours to the hospital in a medical emergency. None of that matters if you are denied coverage because you have a preexisting condition. It’s time for that to change.

It is my promise that I will fight day-in and day-out to fix this broken system. I will be on the front lines to make healthcare more affordable, reliable and accessible for Mainers all across the state. I’ll keep working to keep the doors on our rural hospitals open and I will always stand up to pharmaceutical and insurance companies, calling them out for obscene corporate greed.

In the absence of federal leadership, we are doing what Mainers do best. We are rolling up our sleeves and tackling this problem ourselves, and we’re getting results.

Legislative Wins

Passed legislation to prevent insurance companies from discriminating against people with preexisting conditions.

Led the charge to fund our rural hospitals, because regardless of your zip code, you deserve access to quality health care.

Took on Big Pharma, and won. Passed first-in-the-nation reforms that earned unanimous, bipartisan support in the Senate. These new laws will make medicine more affordable and more accessible, increase price transparency and hold corporate middlemen accountable.

Limited short-term “junk” insurance plans that trick Mainers into purchasing faulty coverage
