As the oldest state in the nation, Maine seniors make up a critical part of our communities and economy.
Ensuring they get the care they need as they age is central to who we are in Maine. In Augusta, I’m committed to stepping up and doing what’s right for our seniors, their families and the people who care for them.
Maine seniors and their families shouldn’t have to worry about finding a quality, safe facility to meet their needs. They shouldn’t have to worry about staffing levels so each senior can get the appropriate and personalized care they need. And the dedicated professionals who care for our seniors shouldn’t have to worry about how they are going to make ends meet while doing this work. That’s why I have continued to introduce legislation to support senior living facilities all across the state.
Maine seniors also shouldn’t have to worry about how they are going to afford the medicine that allows them to remain active members of their families and communities. In this country, one in four senior citizens says it’s difficult to afford their medication. One in five senior citizens has resorted to not taking medication properly due to the cost. As Mainers, we can’t stand for this. It’s why I’m proud to have been a leader in efforts to lower the cost of prescription drugs in Augusta.
Maine seniors are a valuable part of our state. Our laws ought to reflect that. I will keep fighting to make Maine a good place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
Fought to secure for comprehensive prescription drug reform. We won’t let Big Pharma prey on our aging Mainers.
Voted to restore the drugs for the elderly program, covering access to lifesaving prescription drugs for an additional 800 seniors.
Funded Meals on Wheels programs and working to reduce waitlists. Nobody should be forced to move out of their homes simply because they cannot prepare a meal.
Expanded the property tax fairness credits so eligible seniors can save up to $1,200 in property taxes.
