AUGUSTA—Senate President Troy Jackson of Allagash released the following statement in response to the latest ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act out of Texas:
“Health care is a basic human right. And the latest ruling out of Texas is just another attack – in a long string of attacks – on the health and well-being of Americans from people who have never known what it’s like to not have health insurance, to not be able to afford your prescription drugs or to not be able to find a plan that covers a pre-existing condition.”
“Make no mistake, this is part of a larger effort to undermine the Affordable Care Act so large pharmaceutical companies and insurance agencies can continue to line their pockets. And Maine people deserve better.”
“Even with the ACA, health care costs are too high between expensive prescription drugs and outrageous premiums. If anything, I will only fight harder after this ruling so hardworking people have access to affordable quality health care in this state. I said that health care was my top priority coming into the next legislative session, and I’m not going anywhere and I’m certainly not backing down.”
