AUGUSTA – Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, released a statement following the passing of Rep. Donna Doore:
“Today, the entire Maine Legislature mourns the loss of an extraordinary friend, colleague and public official with the passing of Rep. Donna Doore. Donna leaves behind a profound legacy of public service and commitment to her community as a state worker, city councilor, school board member and legislator.
“Even before running for office, Donna earned a reputation for speaking out against injustice, standing up for the rights and dignity of workers, and never backing down. In the Maine Legislature, she was a powerhouse. Donna ran for office with a mission and she didn’t waste any time getting to work, whether it was working to lower health care costs or fighting for fair wages and benefits on the Labor and Housing Committee.
“There was something truly special about Donna. She was probably the hardest working legislator in Augusta. Yet, she had this great sense of humor and the ability to make folks feel at ease whenever they were in her presence. None of this changed with her diagnosis or declining health. In fact, it was often hard to tell she was sick at all.
“On behalf of the Maine Senate, I want to express my deepest condolences to Donna’s husband, Tom, their children and grandchildren as they grieve this tremendous loss. Knowing and serving alongside Donna has been such a gift. The Maine Legislature will not be the same without her, but I know that her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched.”
