Pres. Jackson urges Legislature to honor veterans with action

AUGUSTA – Today, Senate President Jackson, D-Allagash, released the following statement to commemorate Veterans Day, honoring the brave individuals who have served our state and our country in the armed forces:

“Words cannot properly express our profound gratitude to the brave Americans who have stepped up to serve our country, and their loved ones, who have provided unwavering support while often making their own extraordinary sacrifices. It’s why we must match our words of praise and thanks with meaningful action. From supporting military families navigating the challenges that come with active-duty life, such as dealing with a parent overseas or frequent moves across the country, to supporting veterans in the transition from military to civilian life, Maine has made great strides in the Legislature this year. But there is much more work to be done.

“As we look to reduce the rate of homelessness among veterans, improve access to health care and support veteran workers, businesses and entrepreneurs, Maine veterans must have a seat at the table. We must ensure their voices, experiences and input are heard and drive our work.

“To all our veterans and active-duty military members, thank you for your service, your sacrifice and your commitment to our families, our state and our country. Let’s work together to make Maine a better state for both veterans and military families.”
