AUGUSTA — Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, will host a town hall forum on Friday, Feb. 28 at the University of Maine Fort Kent, as part of the weekend activity surrounding the Can-Am Crown International sled dog race.
“I have always said that elected officials should be accessible and accountable to their constituents. This town hall will offer people the chance to voice their questions and concerns as the second legislative session is underway,” said President Jackson. “I look forward to hearing from constituents and joining in the weekend events that the CAN-AM brings to northern Maine.”
Earlier this year, President Jackson earned national recognition from the Town Hall Project for his accessibility to constituents.
Jackson will welcome Speaker of the House Sara Gideon, D-Freeport and Assistant Majority Leader Eloise Vitelli, D-Arrowsic to the town hall, as well as members of the local Aroostook County delegation Sen. Mike Carpenter, D-Houlton, and Rep. John Martin, D-Eagle Lake. All are welcome to attend the event, with no RSVPs required. President Jackson and legislators will be offering brief remarks followed by questions from the audience.
Last year, Jackson and democratic lawmakers cast critical votes to provide $130 million in property tax relief, create good-paying jobs in rural Maine and take on “Big Pharma” by passing a suite of prescription drug reforms aimed at lowering drug costs.
Earlier this week, Legislative Democrats stood alongside patients, health care advocates and providers to unveil their Patients First Health Care Package. The package contains a suite of health care reform bills aimed at advocating for Maine health consumers, protecting against abusive and surprise billing practices, and limiting the cost of insulin for some Mainers. The Legislature is expected to adjourn in April.
